Benedict Cumberbatch to take on the role of the Master?

The Express report that Benedict Cumberbatch, the actor from critically acclaimed BBC series Sherlock, is to take on the role of the master in series 7 or 8, replacing John Simm who previously portrayed the legendary villain.

Cumberbatch is no stranger of Steven Moffat, who happens to not only be Who’s head writer, but Sherlock’s too. According to the article, programme insiders have revealed that the actor, 35, is likely to “lock horns” with the current time lord next year as the show celebrates its 50th anniversary.

“It’s fitting that the Doctor comes face to face with his ultimate enemy, The Master, for the 50th anniversary and it’s felt Benedict is the perfect choice if schedules can work,” The Express are told. “Fans will love the idea of the man who plays Sherlock Holmes taking on the Doctor’’

Benedict Cumberbatch is currently starring in the upcoming Star Trek film as the evil antagonist, but news as to what his future roles may be (other than Sherlock’s third series) are currently unknown - so take this news with a pinch of salt.
